Interview with Carl Hiaasen

Powells.com is running an interview with author Carl Hiaasen. Carl has written nine books and is, by all accounts, a pretty funny fellow. Lately, he's been writing for kids and this interview is obviously to shill the new book, Flush. Enjoy!

20 best geek novels

Guardian Unlimited has published their top 20 best geek novels written in english since 1932 on their blog site. The list was compiled from thier readership. Obviously, it would mostly be sci-fi, but there's a lot of good stuff on it!

Happy 10th, Voyager

Voyager Publishers is 10 years old this month and to celebrate they are running some special promotions like re-issues with special covers and such. Voyager specializes in Fantasy writing along the lines of Tolkien. Infact they have a little blurb about them on their site, but I imagine that if you already know about Voyager, then that's kinda redundant smile

New Crime Books

Random House has released new books by Kathy Reichs, Karin Slaughter and Susan Hill. All three fall under the Crime heading, so seek them out and tell us what you think smile There is also a little bit of a bio on the authors, as well as a chance to win the latest books. We've entered, so maybe we'll win!

Back again

All right folks, after an impossibly long time, we are going to get this thing going again. I personally apologize for letting things slip. We had some technical difficulties and such as well as a large case of 'too busy'. While that is certainly not an excuse that I wanted to use, it is the best I have sad

With these things behind us, we have decided to re-envision the web log and the site, as they say in the branding industry. Our new plan is to see the web log as a board for as much industry news and new releases as we can find as well as nifty links and our own thoughts and commentary. Doesn't that sound fun? smile

We also hope to get the regular site updated on a more standardized frequency and maybe add some cool stuff to it, too.

Please stay tuned,

the 'management'

The straight skinny

Now I try to find stuff that others will find marginally interesting from my own travels and I also try not to scoop up others poop, meaning I try not to swipe stuff from other blogs, but this one is hard to say no to. Knowing how the radio industry works (from the inside) I don't find this as alarming as perhaps you all may as well as I really don't have a hard time believeing this, either. Thank you Paul Graham for actually writing it!

Enjoy!

Were is my mind...

This article from Richard Pells, a Professor at University of Texas - Austin looks into the American spy thriller and how perceptions change a bit from the cold war era to how authors are having difficulty understanding the mind of the terrorist in said genre.

Today's word is...

Harper Collins has a site up devoted to words - not books WITH words - just words. It is their Collins Word Exchange, an off-shoot of thier own dictionary offerings I imagine as you can look up word meanings. The site is also adding words from visitors, so if you have some you can submit them with meaning for consideration.

Other fun things from the site can be found in the Word Tools section. The coolest thing is the texting dictionary. No 1337 dictionary at Collins though.

They are also friendly to the scrabble players out there, but it is of no use to me... THE 3 or less letter scrabble champ! HA!

Oh, the word of the day is Harira.
