The man
has been mentioned a lot on Fictionarium. There's a reason for that. Concentrating
on his popular books, the City of Glass Trilogy, I can tell you that his
reads are crafted in such manner that they have elevated the pulp mystery
to a whole new level. Not only do they give that 'Oooh, what's gonna happen
now?' feel they also give off a "That's funny, we're a long way off from
where we started…" to finally "Wow, I can't believe where I am now!".
I find the books to be immensely
satisfying and quite infectious. They become almost fixed to your hand
until you finish them…while that my seem a little odd, so do the books.
They also have the ability to stick with you for a long time and you find
yourself rolling the book over in your head days if not weeks afterward
- not bad for a book you can nock out in a day or two!
Beware, they can be kind of
creepy as well. My friend who suggested him to me was freaked out by them,
but also thought they were a very good read. They read fast and every
chapter seems to be provoking in it's subtlety of movement. In spite of
this, the books are easy to read.
Mr. Auster has also put out
some memoirs, short stories, and poetry. They are out there, but may be
a bit hard to find. Most times, he would be found in the Literature section.
Just think, you can get a good read AND look all high-brow at once! |
